Petty Officer 2nd Class, machinery technician Javier Carpio, left, and Petty Officer 1st Class, machinery technician Joseph Hernandez, of the U.S. Coast Guard's International Training Division, conduct outboard motor maintenance training for Dominican Republic sailors during the Global Fleet Station's (GFS) pilot deployment to the Caribbean Basin and Central America. The deployment, which includes a broad range of theater security cooperation activities with regional maritime services, is designed to validate the GFS concept for the Navy. It also supports U.S. Southern Command objectives by enhancing cooperative partnerships with regional maritime services and improving the operational readiness of the participating nation's military forces.
