U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Brad Peck dunks a freshly printed product into the Markforged Wash-1 to clean access material off of parts printed in the Metal X 3-D printer on Camp Kinser, Okinawa, Japan, Jan 8, 2020. The Metal X 3-D printer, the world’s first Atomic Diffusion Additive Manufacturing machine, provides 3rd Maintenance Battalion, Combat Logistics Regiment 35, 3rd Marine Logistics Group the ability to design and create intricate metal parts and tools for III Marine Expeditionary Force at a moment’s notice. III MEF is the first MEF to own and operate the Metal X 3-D printer, saving III MEF the time it would take to order, traditionally manufacture and ship parts. Peck, a native of Long Island, New York, is a machinist with General Support Maintenance Company, 3rd Maint. Bn., CLR-35, 3rd MLG. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl. Jamin M. Powell)
