Name: Ted E. Durante, Ombudsman, State Chair Emeritus
Location you represent: Primarily Laramie but anywhere as needed
Military Background: U.S. Navy and Navy Reserve
Years of Service: 1969-1999 | 30 years, 6 months, 18 days
Hometown: Cheyenne, WY
Q. What did you do in the military?
A: I was a Seabee, Construction Battalion
Q. What do you think is the greatest benefit of being in the military?
A. Hard to state one thing. In the big picture, you learn to understand what it means to be accountable to something much bigger than yourself.
Q. How long have you been volunteering with Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR)?
A. 19 years
Q. Why do you volunteer?
A. ESGR provides me an opportunity to pay forward all the experiences I learned from my career in the military. Serving one’s country is not an easy thing to do. Serving one’s country as a career is harder, especially with a family. ESGR provides the tools to the service member, the family, and the employer so all three components understand their rights to each other under USERRA. As I help with this education and recognition process it is satisfying to me to see the positive results under the ESGR program that ultimately improves the lives of those that serve our great country.
