(Dec. 14, 2019) Chief petty officers from the U.S. Navy and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) exchange gifts during the opening ceremony of the 33rd Annual Mochi Pounding Festival at the JMSDF Yokosuka base, Japan. Mochi is a traditional Japanese food made by pounding cooked rice with wooden mallets. The celebration was a cultural event to promote teamwork between the two forces and to celebrate the coming of the New Year. (U.S. Navy photo by Taylor Curry)
