The Iwo Jima memorial of 3rd Marine Division stands atop Mt. Suribachi near the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force Central Field, Iwo To, Japan, Nov. 19, 2019. Marines from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit traveled to the island on a professional military education trip and to pay respect to those fallen in battle. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps` only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premier crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region.
