An old car pumper with zebra mussels and seaweed stuck to it lays on the Bird Island Pier in Buffalo, NY, November 6, after the October 31 storm washed it up onto the pier from the Niagara River. The Buffalo District and the Buffalo Department of Public Works inspected the pier to get an assessment of the amount of damage the storm caused to the structure. The storm on Halloween created 10-20 foot waves on Lake Ontario, which caused a portion of the pier to be pushed off its foundation and into the Black Rock Channel located in Buffalo, NY.
