JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO – FORT SAM HOUSTON – (Oct. 24, 2019) Paola Gatling of McAllen, Texas, enlisted into America’s Navy during a remote swear-in ceremony held at Navy Recruiting District (NRD) San Antonio headquarters. Gatlin, a 2012 graduate of McAllen High School, will serve as a hospital corpsman. “I’ve always wanted to join the Navy,” said Gatling. “This is something I want to do and be able to defend this awesome country.” Administering the oath of enlistment was Lt. Michael Wojdyla, NRD San Antonio’s Enlisted Operations Programs officer. After attending Boot Camp, Gatling will report to Fort Sam Houston to attend “A” school for 14 weeks. Here, she’ll develop a working knowledge of basic principles and techniques of patient care and first aid procedures in preparation for her first assignment. NRD San Antonio’s area of responsibility includes more than 34 Navy Recruiting Stations and Navy Officer Recruiting Stations spread throughout 144,000 square miles of Central and South Texas territory.
