JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO – FORT SAM HOUSTON – (Oct. 22, 2019) Naval Aviation Candidate Michael Cruzpinon of Von Ormy, Texas was sworn into America’s Navy during an Oath of Enlistment Ceremony held at Navy Recruiting District (NRD) San Antonio. Cruzpinon, a 2018 graduate of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, will attend Officer Candidate School (OCS) in Newport, R.I. in November. Lt. Jeff Underwood of Alamo, Calif., a division officer assigned to NRD San Antonio, administered the oath. Those entering aviation programs must first attend OCS and then complete a six-week air indoctrination course at Naval Aviation Schools Command, in Pensacola, Fla. From there, prospective pilots and naval flight officers (NFO) attend primary flight training. Pilots and NFOs then request an aircraft pipeline and enter the intermediate phase of flight training, which builds upon basic flight and navigation training. The final phase is advanced naval flight training, focusing on mission specifics. After completion, Pilots and NFOs are awarded their “wings of gold” and report to their respective Fleet Replacement Squadrons (FRSs) for further training specific to their aircraft. NRD San Antonio’s area of responsibility includes more than 34 Navy Recruiting Stations and Navy Officer Recruiting Stations spread throughout 144,000 square miles of Central and South Texas territory.
