SULU SEA (Oct. 17, 2019) Sailors aboard the Whidbey Island-class dock landing ship USS Germantown (LSD 42) await the approach of a Philippine Navy AW-109 helicopter from Germantown’s flight deck during combined flight operations between the U.S. and Philippine navies as part of the sea phase of Maritime Training Activity (MTA) Sama Sama 2019. Now in its third year, MTA Sama Sama includes forces from Japan, Philippines and the United States, and is designed to promote regional security cooperation, maintain and strengthen maritime partnerships, and enhance maritime interoperability (U.S. Navy photo by Seaman Christopher Taylor)
