Submitted photo by Clay Farrington. Volunteers and staff members bid a fond farewell to Clayton Allen, who served as the Battleship Operations Manager aboard the decommissioned Iowa-Class Battleship USS Wisconsin (BB-64) after a tenure of five years. The Battleship is located next to the Hampton Roads Naval Museum; and museum staff members and volunteers presented him with a few parting gifts. During his tenure, the amount of explorable spaces on the Battleship increased from 10,000 to 30,000 square feet, the ship in connection with partner organizations opened the Ship Experience Access Room (SEAR) room, which allowed for remote exploration of the ship for mobility impaired guests with live video, and the implementation of enhanced guided tours using sound interpretive practices.
