U.S. Marine Sgt. Gabriel Alcantar and a Philippine Marine assemble a 105mm Howitzer round during a bilateral artillery range as part of KAMANDAG 3 at Colonel Ernesto P. Ravina Air Base, Philippines, Oct. 15, 2019. The United States is proud to participate in this Philippine-led, bilateral exercise in order to develop capabilities across a wide range of military operations. Alcantar, a native of Fort Worth, Texas, is a howitzer section chief with Alpha Battery, Battalion Landing Team, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit. The Philippine Marine is an artilleryman with 17th Marine Company, Field Artillery Battalion. KAMANDAG is an acronym for the Filipino phrase “Kaagapay Ng Mga Mandirigma Ng Dagat,” which translates to “Cooperation of the Warriors of the Sea,” highlighting the partnership between the U.S. and Philippine militaries.
