SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (Oct. 14, 2019) Bijan Karimi, acting deputy director, Division of Emergency Services, San Francisco Department of Emergency Management, discusses disaster relief planning with Vice Adm. Scott D. Conn, commander, U.S. Third Fleet, during a visit to the city's Emergency Operations Center as part of San Francisco Fleet Week 2019. SFFW disaster response events advance military and civilian cooperation and strengthen mutual understanding of how military resources could assist the Bay Area following a catastrophic event, such as an earthquake or wildfire. SFFW provides an opportunity for the Marine Corps and Navy to demonstrate the quality of personnel to the citizens of San Francisco and surrounding areas. Through Fleet Weeks, the military gains the opportunity to educate area leaders and the general public about the Marine Corps and Navy.
