U.S. Marine Staff Sgt. Byron Cheek-Enriques provides security during exercise KAMANDAG 3 at Marine Barracks Georgio Lim, Ternate, Philippines, Oct. 10, 2019. Exercises such as KAMANDAG increase our ability to work together in response to crisis across the military spectrum in order to accomplish the mission, support the local population, and help alleviate human suffering. Cheek-Enriques, a native of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, is an assistant team leader with Bravo Company, 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion. KAMANDAG is an acronym for the Filipino phrase “Kaagapay Ng Mga Manirigma Ng Dagat,” which translates to “Cooperation of the Warriors of the Sea,” highlighting the partnership between the U.S. and Philippine militaries.
