FORT CARSON, Colo. — Capt. Lukasz Willenberg, pastor, Catholic Community of Our Lady of Fort Carson, sprinkles Finn with holy water as his owner, Capt. Ashley Kotran, Fort Carson Veterinary Center, looks on during the Blessings of the Animals Oct. 5, 2019, at Soldiers’ Memorial Chapel. The Anatolian shepherd Labrador mix was among the many four-legged Family members from the Fort Carson community, to include two military working dogs, that received a blessing during the event held in honor of the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of all animals. “It is an opportunity (for community members) to come together with the pets they love that are a part of the community, but also very much a part of their Families, and their homes to receive this special blessing and that God will continue to use these animals as an extension of his presence, his love and his companionship,” said Willenberg.
