Soldiers from the 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard), the U.S. Army Band, “Pershing’s Own”, and the 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) Caisson Platoon conducted military funeral honors with funeral escort for U.S. Army Master Sgt. Jose Gonzalez in Section 60 of Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia, Sept. 11, 2019.
Gonzalez was assigned to 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne) at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla. along with U.S. Army Master Sgt. Luis DeLeon-Figueroa. Both soldiers died Aug. 21, 2019 in Faryab Province, Afghanistan, as a result of wounds sustained from small arms fire while engaged in combat operations.
Gonzalez’s spouse, Brenda Carretero, received the flag from her husband’s casket.
