Marines of Mike Battery, 3rd Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, reload a M-777 A2 Howitzer as part of a firing mission during Desert Fire Exercise 2012 here, May 9. Despite thick smoke lingering in the air, the Marines worked rapidly to reload the weapon between rounds. During the 11-day exercise, the regiment developed and sustained their ability to plan and execute artillery fires in support of maneuver, fire support coordination and counter fires within an offensive scenario.
