VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (Sept. 25, 2019) Senior Chief Machinist's Mate Fred Smith, from Houston, assigned to USS Gerald R. Ford's (CVN 78) reactor department, receives the "Wolverine" award from the Stennis Center for Public Service. The "Wolverine" award is given to a chief petty officer for demonstrating exceptional leadership skills over the past year. The Stennis Center for Public Service is a federal, legislative branch agency created by Congress in 1988 to promote and strengthen public service leadership in America.
