Former commander in chief of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Mr. Bob Wallace, is given a lei during a National POW/MIA Recognition Day ceremony hosted by the Defece POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Hawaii, Sept. 20, 2019. First established in 1979, through a proclamation from President Jimmy Carter, National POW/MIA Recognition Day is an observance to honor and recognize the sacrifices of those Americans who have been a POW, and to remind the nation of those who are still MIA. DPAA is conducting worldwide operations to provide the fullest possible accounting of those classified as still missing. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Sgt. Jacqueline A. Clifford)
