FORT BLISS, Texas –The Colors and Prisoner of War/Missing in Action flag remain raised following the playing of Reveille outside the 1st Armored Division headquarters building Sept. 20. The raising of the Colors and POW/MIA flag on this day is part of a division commemoration for POW/MIA Recognition Day, which is celebrated the third Friday of September, to remember and honor service members who were prisoners of war or are still considered missing in action. Out of the more than 81,000 missing, 75% of the losses are located in the Indo-Pacific, and more than 41,000 of the missing are presumed lost at sea (i.e. ship losses, known aircraft water losses, etc.).
