U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Charleston District Project Manager Wes Wilson conducts a damage assessment of Folly Beach, South Carolina after Hurricane Dorian struck the coast.

The assessment, conducted on Sept. 9, showed the Corps beach renourishment project performed as designed.

The 5.5 mile project, in partnership with the City of Folly Beach and Charleston County, was designed to reduce storm damage and protect important infrastructure and homes near the coast.

Protecting the infrastructure behind the dunes along the South Carolina coast has always been a priority at the Charleston District, and during the last 10 years, the District has completed 10 beach renourishment projects.
