190830-N-NB544-1233 STRAIT OF TIRAN (Aug. 30, 2019) Quartermaster Seaman Ethan Brackett uses an alidade to find the bearing of the amphibious transport dock ship USS John P. Murtha (LPD 26) as the ship transits the Strait of Tiran during exercise Eager Lion 2019. Eager Lion, U.S. Central Command's largest and most complex exercise, is an opportunity to integrate forces in a multilateral environment, operate in realistic terrain and strengthen military-to-military relationships. John P. Murtha is part of the Boxer Amphibious Ready Group and 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit and is deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and the Pacific through the Western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
