Indiana Army National Guard Capt. Adam Ahern, a 38th Infantry Division chaplain from Batesville, Indiana, serving in the Middle East with Task Force Spartan, received the 38th Infantry Division shoulder sleeve insignia - former wartime service , aka combat patch, while providing religious support in an active combat zone where Spartan soldiers needed religious services.
"I serve because God has called me to serve not only the church, but the soldiers of the Indiana Army National Guard," said Ahern. "There are not many priests in the military, less than 150 Army-wide, so I perform Catholic services for those who serve our country. Also, to help provide for the free exercise of any faith found in our formations."
He serves as the operations chaplain for Task Force Spartan tracking, communicating and coordinating with several commands across 10 different countries supporting 10,000 soldiers.
Task Force Spartan grows and maintains government relationships across southwest Asia through planning and operations with our nation partners in the region.
