Lt. Col. Sean Cross, 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron pilot, explains what an alpha pattern flight path to Maity Interiano, Univision’s Emmy Award winning reporter, Aug. 31, 2019 over the Atlantic Ocean. The alpha pattern is the flight path the Hurricane Hunters use in their weather data collecting mission. The pattern resembles a figure four and along the path the crew is dropping dropsondes to collect data from the storm environment. The data is then verified and passed onto the National Hurricane Center for their forecasting and weather updates. (U.S. Air Force photo by Tech. Sgt. Christopher Carranza)
