Pfc. Tristan Altenbach, a Marine with Charlie Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, poses with a flag with his family that was signed by his great-grandfather during World War II and donated by the Altenbach family at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C., Aug. 30, 2019. Tristan’s great-grandfather, Paul J. Altenbach, served in World War II in the Army with Company B, 38th Infantry Battalion, 7th Armored Divison. The flags were signed by him and his friends at the end of the war.
