JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (August 23, 2019) – Hospitalman Nathalyn Rosales (in the dark blue scrubs), a sailor participating in Navy Medicine’s Hospital Corpsman Trauma Training, observes a procedure at UF Health Jacksonville’s emergency department on Aug. 23. Sixteen hospital corpsmen from across the Navy received two weeks of specialized training at Naval Hospital Jacksonville, followed by five weeks at UF Health Jacksonville (a Level I trauma center). Rosales, a native of Kearny, New Jersey, will be assigned to USS Wayne E. Meyer (DDG 108), homeported at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. “Seeing all the trauma patients has helped me better my basic lifesaving skills and given me new knowledge in trauma and patient care. I definitely have become a better corpsman because of it.” The corpsmen, who have already served one tour at a military treatment facility, are then assigned to operational units across the globe. The clinical rotations provide enhanced real-world trauma experience for Navy hospital corpsmen, who provide life-saving care to sailors and Marines in the field.
