United States Army LTC Sonya Shaw, family practice nurse and native of Broken Bow, Nebraska, works alongside Armed Forces of the Philippines P2Lt. Cynthia M. Gonzales, AFP medical corps pediatrician, to conduct family wellness check-ups during a medical civic assistance project (MEDCAP) at Kandis Elementary School as a part of Exercise Balikatan 2012 (BK12) in Puerto Princesa, Palawan, Republic of the Philippines on April 17, 2012. BK12 is an annual bilateral training exercise that enhances Philippine and U.S. military member interoperability during humanitarian and disaster relief operations in addition to contingency and joint planning readiness. BK12 officially began on April 16 and is scheduled to end on April 27, 2012.
