This visit marks the fifth stop of a 26-day Brazil Riverine humanitarian medical mission by five U.S. Navy and Air Forces physicians, a U.S. Navy nurse and their Brazilian counterparts deployed aboard the Brazilian navy hospital ship NAsH Doutor Montenegro (U16). The purpose of the mission is to exchange medical expertise, provide medical care, including dental services for over 200 patients, to isolated communities along the Amazon River and serve as a capstone event for the U.S. Military Tropical Medicine Course.
