VILA DAS PEDRAS, Brazil (Aug. Aug. 6, 2019) Cmdr. Alicea Mingo, Maj. Joshua Shields and Brazilian navy Lt. j.g. Douglas review a patient’s prenatal care history aboard NAsH Doutor Montenegro (U16) in Vila das Pedras, Brazil, Aug. 6. This visit marks the first stop of a 26-day Brazil Riverine humanitarian medical mission by five U.S. Navy and Air Forces physicians, a U.S. Navy nurse and their Brazilian counterparts deployed aboard Montenegro. The purpose of the mission is to exchange medical expertise, provide medical care to isolated communities along the Amazon River and serve as a capstone event for the U.S. Military Tropical Medicine Course.
