    3rd Marine Division

U.S. Marine Cpl. Kenneth Read, a non-lethal weapons instructor, with Provost Marshall’s Office, Marine Corps Base Camp Butler, poses for a photo after overseeing a non-lethal weapons training course on Camp Courtney, Okinawa, Japan, Aug. 16, 2019. “The Marines need to demonstrate that they can fight through the effects of OC Spray because in the event that they need to use it on a subject they are likely to receive a secondary exposure,” said Read. “They need to get past the pain and make the arrest. These Marines did exactly that.” The training encompasses classes in the lawful use of force, M1014 Shotgun qualification, and OC Spray qualification. During OC Spray qualification Marines are exposed to OC and conduct a simulated arrest with a non-compliant suspect. Read is a native of Massapequa Park, N.Y. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl.
