    USS WASP (LHD 1)

Logistics Specialist Petty Officer 3rd Class (SW/AW) Curtis Smith from the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp (LHD 1) speaks to students of Apollo Middle School as part of a community relations project during Navy Week Port Everglades. The sailor told the Navy's story and answered questions from the students about life aboard a ship. Wasp is in Port Everglades April 25-30 to celebrate Navy Week Port Everglades - a bicentennial of the War of 1812 commemorative event. Overall 3,000 sailors and Marines, six ships from the United States are involved in the Navy Week events. The commemoration of the Bicentennial of the War of 1812 is a salute to all sailors and Marines who fought gallantly in that conflict, who have served in out nations' conflicts since then, and who are defending freedom around the world today.
