United States Marine Corps Brig. Gen. Frederick M. Padilla, U.S. Exercise Director for Balikatan 2012, speaks to Philippine and U.S. Marines before they rehearse a beach assault at Tagkawayan Beach, Palawan, Republic of the Philippines on April 21, 2012. Padilla spoke about what a great opportunity it is to train alongside the Philippine Marine Corps and noted both services’ hard work during Balikatan 2012 (BK12). BK12 is an annual bilateral training exercise aimed at improving Republic of the Philippines and U.S. military force interoperability during planning, contingency, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations. Padilla is the commanding general of 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force.
