During the initial Columbia survival, evasion, resistance and escape training brief, each soldier was told to take all commands from the flight crew and refrain from taking initiative to help them. Instincts quickly began to take over as the healthy soldiers began assembling themselves in a security perimeter after egress from the helicopters. Spc. Kimberley Espey, member of the 230th Signal Company, Tennessee National Guard was alert, aware and ready for anything.
