Medical doctor and U.S. Army Capt. Jereme P. Long discusses motor vehicle accidents and treatment of wounds and lacerations with rural health care workers in the Barangay Mangingisda, April 12. The training involved both Philippine and U.S. personnel in the lectures and covered topics relevant for basic village health and medicine. The training for rural health care workers is part of the humanitarian civic assistance portion of Exercise Balikatan 2012 (BK12), which officially started, April 16, with the HCA portion of the exercise starting earlier on March 12, with engineering projects to build two-room classrooms at five schools within the Puerto Princesa area. The construction projects are now over 80 percent complete and are expected to be completed by April 27, 2012. BK12, in its 28th iteration, is an annual bilateral training exercise between the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the U.S. military to enhance interoperability between the two partner nations.
