JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (July 18, 2019) -- Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class Timothy Helton (left), an instructor at Naval Hospital Jacksonville, motivates Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class James Pisciotto, a sailor participating in Navy Medicine’s Hospital Corpsman Trauma Training program. Sixteen hospital corpsmen from across the Navy receive two weeks of specialized training at Naval Hospital Jacksonville, followed by five weeks at UF Health Jacksonville (a Level I trauma center). Pisciotto, a native of Morristown, New Jersey, says, “This is a great opportunity to learn more medicine and sharpen my skills, so I can help the Marines at Camp Lejeune, my next duty station. This training literally saves lives, and that’s what I hope to gain from this course.” The corpsmen, who have already served one tour at a military treatment facility, are then assigned to operational units across the globe. The clinical rotations provide enhanced real-world trauma experience for Navy hospital corpsmen, who provide life-saving care to sailors and Marines in the field. Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command Jacksonville (co-located with NH Jacksonville) delivers a ready medical force, in support of Department of Defense missions around the globe.
