SAN DIEGO (July 18, 2019) – Chief Aviation Boatswain’s Mate (Handling) Andres Bonilla, assigned to the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8), conducts a brief with Sailors in air department before a crash and salvage drill on the flight deck. The crash and salvage drill trains Sailors how to respond to a crash or aviation related fire. Makin Island, homeported in San Diego, is conducting a depot-level maintenance availability.
