SAN DIEGO (July 10, 2019) Aviation Ordnanceman 1st Class Randy Hernandez, from Orange, Calif., downloads an M4 rifle after completing his watch aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8). Watchstanders ensure the safety and security of the ship from any threats 24 hours a day. Makin Island, homeported in San Diego, is conducting a depot-level maintenance availability.
