Undersecretary of the Army Joseph W. Westphal meets with Mexican Ambassador to the United States Arturo Sarukhan, April 13, 2012, at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., to discuss Army-to-Army cooperation efforts and regional security issues. Westphal and Sarukhan discussed the importance of maintaining relationships, expanding partnerships into areas of mutual interest, and deepening U.S.-Mexico defense cooperation to effectively confront shared security challenges. Additionally, Sarukhan discussed with Westphal the status of the Mexican military's fight against transnational criminal organizations and the contributions of the Mexican army. Sarukhan previously served as an international spokesperson and coordinator of foreign affairs in Felipe Calderón's presidential campaign and was appointed Mexico's ambassador to the United States, Jan. 27, 2007.
