Lt. Julio Alarcon, main propulsion assistant aboard littoral combat ship USS Independence (LCS 2), uses the engineering control system (ECS) to transfer fuel between holding tanks in the engineering log room aboard the ship. ECS is a fully automated system that allows the operator to run any system, or start and stop any piece of machinery linked to the system with the push of a button. Independence's Gold Crew and embarked Mine Countermeasures (MCM), Detachment 1 are underway for the ship's maiden voyage to San Diego.
