Nine WWII era Concrete Ships are sunk just off shore at Kiptopeke State Park on Virginia's Eastern Shore. The ships were sunk to form an artificial breakwater for the ferry service that transported visitors, vehicles and cargo across the Chesapeake Bay before the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel was constructed. Today, they serve as habitat for migrating birds and fish species. (US Navy Photo by Max Lonzanida/Released).
