Brig. Gen. Mark S. Martins, Chief Prosecutor for the Office of Military Commissions, addresses the media during a press conference after the Office of Military Commissions concluded another round of legal motions on behalf of Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri, a Saudi man accused of plotting the 2000 bombing of the USS Cole (DDG-67) in Yemen in which 17 American sailors died from the terrorist attack. Al-Nashiri is also accused of setting up the October 2002 bombing of the French supertanker MV Limburg, as well as a failed attack on another American warship, the USS The Sullivans in January 2000. JTF Guantanamo provides safe, humane, legal and transparent care and custody of detainees, including those convicted by military commission and those ordered released by a court. The JTF conducts intelligence collection, analysis and dissemination for the protection of detainees and personnel working in JTF Guantanamo facilities and in support of the War on Terror. JTF Guantanamo provides support to the Office of Military Commissions, to law enforcement and to war crimes investigations. The JTF conducts planning for and, on order, responds to Caribbean mass migration operations.
