A seabee assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 27 was medically evacuated from the field due to heat exhaustion while participating in a Field Training Exercise at Camp Shelby, Miss. March 18. At the FTX in-brief, Commanding Officer Peter Pitman emphasized that safety was his number one priority during the evolution. The corpsman on the scene quickly determined the situation called for an urgent response and the command did not hesitate to call for a medevac. The member was held for 24 hours at a local hospital and was then released to full duty. Emphasis on safety and timely reactions by the command prevented a more serious incident from occurring.
