JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO - FORT SAM HOUSTON - (July 3, 2019) Ensign Krissian Martinez of San Antonio, assigned to Navy Recruiting District (NRD) San Antonio through the Officer Hometown Area Recruiting Program, was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal by NRD Commanding Officer Cmdr. Nicholas Gamiz at NRD headquarters. From May to July 2019, Martinez’s tireless efforts and personal commitment led to the recruitment of nine highly qualified nuclear officer candidates. Her boundless initiative and steadfast knowledge of recruiting systems were instrumental in assisting recruiters in accomplishing Navy Recruiting Command’s mission of maintaining fleet readiness. Martinez, who graduated from Officer Candidate School in May, will be attending the Navy’s Nuclear Power School in Goose Creek, S.C. to become a nuclear submarine officer. She is a 2013 graduate of Douglas MacArthur High School and a 2017 graduate of New York University. “I wanted to come back home and assist in nominating qualified applicants for nuclear programs,” said Martinez. “Additionally, I was able to provided some first-hand experience in becoming qualified for such programs, and being able to spend time with my family was a plus.” The Navy Nuclear Propulsion Officer Candidate (NUPOC) program enables individuals to join both the Navy and one of the top nuclear programs. It offers scholarship money to pay for a degree and provides a regular monthly income while candidates are in school. NRD San Antonio’s area of responsibility includes more than 30 Navy Recruiting Stations and Navy Officer Recruiting Stations spread throughout 144,000 square miles of Central and South Texas territory.
