Retired Vice Adm. Al Konetzni receives the American flag from a member of the U.S. Navy Ceremonial Guard at the funeral for Rear Adm. Eugene Bennett Fluckey at Annapolis, Md., Aug. 28. Fluckey, who died June 28, 2007, graduated from the Naval Academy in 1935, was the recipient of the Legion of Merit, Distinguished Service Medal, and four Navy Crosses, as well as the Medal of Honor for conspicuous gallantry as Commanding Officer aboard the submarine USS Barb during World War II. Fluckey served in the U.S. Navy for 37 years, and was honored by the Naval Academy Alumni Association with the Distinguished Graduate Award in 2003.
