190628-N-SB587-1339 KOTA KINABALU, Malaysia (June 28, 2019) Quarter Master 2nd Class Colin Nicholson, assigned to the Avenger-class mine countermeasures ship USS Pioneer (MCM 9), does a warm up during a running event hosted in Kota Kinabalu by the U.S. Embassy, mayor’s office and several wildlife conservation NGOs to raise awareness of wildlife preservation. Pioneer, part of Mine Countermeasures Squadron 7, is operating in the 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with partners and serve as a ready-response platform for contingency operations.
