Jeffrey O'Brien measures the distance between the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Michael Murphy (DDG 112) and Chilean replenishment ship CNS Araucano (AO-53) as part of a a simulated replenishment-at-sea exercise during UNITAS LX. Michael Murphy is participating in UNITAS LX in Valparaiso, Chile, from June 24-July 3. UNITAS, Latin for "unity," is the world's longest-running multinational maritime exercise. Conceived in 1959 and first executed in 1960, UNITAS is a demonstration of U.S. commitment to the region and the strong relationships forged between our partner nations and their militaries.
