U.S. Marine Corps Col. Richard Fuerst, the commanding officer of Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, meets with members of the National Diet of Japan during a tour of MCAS Iwakuni, Japan, June 27, 2019. The Diet is comprised of elected officials in the Japanese government and is comparable to the United States Congress. The tour was hosted in order to display the capabilities of MCAS Iwakuni as a vital part of the U.S.-Japan alliance through providing defensive, air transportation and humanitarian/disaster relief capabilities to the U.S. Indo-Pacific region.
