127th Wing members helped showcase the 127th Wing’s flying missions when a group of children from the Tuskegee Airmen Aviation Career Education (ACE) camp visited SANGB on June 26.
The group, comprised of approximately 30 teenagers and their adult chaperones, participated in a base tour guided by Lt. Col. Donald Davenport, DO of 171st Air Refueling Squadron and Chief Master Sgt. Anthony Liggins, also of the 171st. They visited the Air Traffic Control tower, toured a KC-135 Stratotanker, an A-10 Thunderbolt II and observed see the maintenance and operations activities that go into missions.
“Every year the ACE Camp visit is successful and many of the students develop ambitions to peruse aviation-related careers,” said Davenport. “We look forward to this continued excellence.”
The ACE camp, designed for youth in grades 8 through 10, is a five day long camp based at Wayne State University, Detroit. Aside from visiting Selfridge, the students learn about the history of aviation, learn about aircraft design, theory of flight and other aviation-related activities.
