SAN ANTONIO – (June 24, 2019) Robert Guerra of San Antonio, a financial analyst with the United Services Automobile Association (USAA), enlisted into America’s Navy during a swearing-in ceremony held at USAA headquarters. Guerra, a 2014 graduate of Central Catholic High School and 2018 graduate of the University of Texas-Austin, will attend Officer Candidate School in July with follow-on training at Naval Air Station Pensacola to become a Naval aviator. “I joined the Navy to serve my country,” said Guerra, whose older brother, Henry Guerra, recently graduated from the U.S. Military Academy. “Leading men and women in the Navy will demand more of me than anything I have done before and I am eager to embrace the challenges and reap the rewards of beginning a Naval officer.” The oath was administered by retired Navy Capt. Bill White of USAA. “The people at USAA have left a lasting impact on me and having the ceremony at USAA provided me with a sense of closure to what has been a formative experience for me,” said Guerra. “USAA’s culture on servant-leadership and the association’s unwavering commitment to serving the military community definitely reaffirmed my desire to join the Navy.” Guerra was recruited by Chief Navy Counselor Deran Law (right) of Long Beach, Calif., assigned to Navy Officer Recruiting Station Austin. Navy Recruiting District (NRD) San Antonio’s area of responsibility includes more than 34 Navy Recruiting Stations and Navy Officer Recruiting Stations spread throughout 144,000 square miles of Central and South Texas territory.
