The Commanding General of Multi National Force-West, Marine Maj. General Walter E. Gaskin, listens as the President George W. Bush, speaks to the service members aboard Al Asad Airbase, Iraq, Sept. 3 during a surprise visit to meet with Iraqi government officials and American political figures to discuss the rebuilding efforts of Al Anbar province, Iraq. The service members at Al Asad Air Base are deployed with Multi-National Force-West in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in the Al Anbar province of Iraq to develop the Iraqi Security Forces, facilitate the development of official rule of law through democratic reforms and continue the development of a market-based economy centered on Iraqi reconstruction.
