Secretary of Defense Robert Gates is greeted by Captain Janine K. Garner, the staff secretary of 2D Marine Aircraft Wing (Forward), at the Al Asad Air Base Operations tower Sept. 3, during a visit with Iraqi government officials and American political figures to discuss the rebuilding efforts of Al Anbar province, Iraq. 2D MAW (FWD) is deployed with Multi-National Force-West in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in the Al Anbar province of Iraq to develop the Iraqi security forces, facilitate the development of official rule of law through democratic reforms and continue the development of a market-based economy centered on Iraqi reconstruction.
